Breaking the societal stereotype that the girls are less interested than boys in Computer Science and Engineering, 18 years old Sheeri Fatima has got the admission in Bachelor of Computer Application after completing her 12th Grade. Sheeri Fatima got fascinated for Computer Education after joining Digital Literacy Program run by UDAAN program. However, getting the admission in Computer Science has never been so easy for Sheeri as she has to fight against the societal pressure and cultural norms while seeking the tech careers. She Lack of role models in IT sector is another major component that strengthen the belief that science and technology field is not appropriate for the girls. Today Sheeri has become a role model for the other girls leaving in her community who dream to make her career in science and technology. She thanks her parents who supported her by all means in her endeavour.

Sheeri Fatima is participant of UDAAN program: A cascade of learning project run in slum locations of Lucknow byShohratgarh Environmental Society with support of Asia Initiatives.

UDAAN, a SoCCs based adolescent girls’ empowerment program, aims at equipping adolescent girls, living in slum areas of Lucknow, with employability skills (Digital Literacy, English Literacy & Life Skills) & make them life ready. Currently, the program is being run in 21 slums of Lucknow covering more than 1000 adolescent girls in the age group of 11-19 years.
