Goals

Eradicating Poverty:

Poverty is root cause to almost all social problems. The poverty headcount ratio at national poverty line in 2005 was 37.2 % and it got reduced to 21.9 % in 2012. Population below poverty line is not provided with proper sanitation facility, quality food and safe drinking water. Poverty alleviation is urgent. With other national & international efforts, SES aims to eradicate poverty .It works to ensure that all men and women, particularly the poor and the vulnerable, have equal rights to economic resources, as well as access to basic services, ownership, and control over land and other forms of property, inheritance, natural resources, appropriate new technology, and financial services including microfinance. It shall work to build the resilience of the poor and those in vulnerable situations, and reduce their exposure and vulnerability to climate-related extreme events and other economic, social and environmental shocks and disasters.it shall also advocate for sound policy frameworks, at state, national, regional and international levels, based on pro-poor and gender-sensitive development strategies.

ENDING HUNGER , FOOD SOVERIGNTY , IMPROVED NUTRITION & SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE:

In spite of Striking rates of economic growth in India, more than half of the population is suffering from hunger .SES aims to end hunger, achieve food security/sovereignty and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture. It shall also include facilitation of sustainable food production systems and facilitate resilient agricultural practices that increase productivity and production, that help maintain ecosystems, that strengthen capacity for adaptation to climate change, extreme weather, drought, flooding and other disasters, and that progressively improve land and soil quality. It shall also make effort to maintain genetic diversity of seeds, cultivated plants, farmed and domesticated animals and their related wild species, including through soundly mana0ged and diversified seed and plant banks.

ENSURING HEALTHY LIVES:

SES aim for quality & healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages. It shall focus on maternal & child health along with epidemics of Aids, tuberculosis, malaria, and combat hepatitis, water-borne diseases, and other communicable diseases. With changing lifestyle, more people in India now die of non -communicable diseases such as diabetes, heart attack, cirrhosis. Overweight & Obese has increased in last one decade. At the same time ,country has largest number of youth population in the world currently. It shall also focus on universal access to sexual and reproductive health care services, including for family planning, information and education, and the integration of reproductive health into national strategies and programmes.

ENSURING INCLUSIVE, EQUITABLE & QUALITY EDUCATION:

SES aims for equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. SES shall make effort for free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education for girls and boys complete. It shall include early childhood development; care so they can be ready for primary education. Focus shall be also on quality, technical & vocational education so they can access for better employment opportunities, jobs & even for entrepreneurship.

GENDER EQUALITY ,EMPOWERING WOMEN & GIRLS:

SES focuses on achieving gender equality and empowers all women & girls. It encompasses all ending forms of discrimination & violence against all women and girl’s .Ending child, early marriage is one of the priorities of SES. SES shall also make effort for women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic, and public life. SES Believes promoting gender rights does not mean promoting rights of women & girls. We shall also work for rights of men wherever we fell it necessary.

ENSURING SUSTAINABLE & AVAIBILITY OF WATER & PROPER SANITATION:

SES aims on sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. It includes safe & affordable drinking water & equitable sanitation & hygiene for all. Making efforts to end open defecation, paying special attention to the needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable situations, including water harvesting, desalination, water efficiency, wastewater treatment, recycling and reuse technologies.

ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE & SUSTAINABLE ENERGY:

Being born in rural area, SES understands condition of energy in the country. SES shall ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for those who need it. The main focus shall be on renewable energy.

IMPROVED URBAN AMENITIES:

By 2030, 50 % of Indian population shall live in urban area. The growth shall generate pressure on public infrastructure including basic health and sanitation services. The unprecedented rise of urbanization and development activities, land degradation and inadequate infrastructure for waste water disposal shall lead to rapid deterioration in water quality in the majority of rivers as well quality of life. .SES aims for better urban amenities.It means access for adequate, safe and affordable housing and basic services, and upgraded slums.

ACTION TO COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE & RELATED SHOCKS:

Climate change & natural disasters pose a key challenge to sustainable development. Climate change is impacting the natural ecosystems & is expected to have substantial adverse effects in India, mainly on agriculture on which 58 percent of population still depends for livelihood. It has also increase frequency of natural disaster such as flood, droughts & cyclones. Vulnerability to climate change & natural disasters also has a strong linkage with poverty to create multiple stress over the stresses that already exist.. SES focuses on strengthening resilience & adaptive capacity to combat climate change & natural disasters.

PROMOTING IMPORTANCE OF BIODIVERSITY:

India alone holds about 8 % of world’s biodiversity, high percentage of endemic flora & fauna. The biodiversity is under severe threat .Ecological degradation in the country is leading to desertification, land degradation & deforestation. It is pushing large number of population food security under danger. SES aims on conservation, restoration and sustainable use of terrestrial and inland freshwater ecosystems and their services, in particular forests, wetlands, mountains and drylands, in line with obligations under various agreements at national & international level.

PROMOTING IMPORTANCE OF BIODIVERSITY:

India alone holds about 8 % of world’s biodiversity, high percentage of endemic flora & fauna. The biodiversity is under severe threat .Ecological degradation in the country is leading to desertification, land degradation & deforestation. It is pushing large number of population food security under danger. SES aims on conservation, restoration and sustainable use of terrestrial and inland freshwater ecosystems and their services, in particular forests, wetlands, mountains and drylands, in line with obligations under various agreements at national & international level.

PROMOTING PEACEFUL, TOLERANT SOCIETY FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT:

SES aims to promote peaceful and tolerant societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.


Apart from above goals, there are several gaps in policy formulation as well as implementation. We need to take care of that too.
